1. Why should I give to TBC?
The work of TBC is dependent upon the giving of
its members. Giving sacrificially is a Scriptural principle. It is honouring to
the Lord to take time to consider and pray about how you give to His work at TBC.
2. Why should I make gifts under Gift Aid?
- Making gifts under the Gift Aid scheme will make your giving more
effective and it will encourage you to plan your giving.
- If you are a taxpayer and you have signed a Gift Aid Declaration, the Church
can reclaim the tax that was deducted when you earned the money given. Each year TBC reclaims more than £90,000 in tax.
3. How does the scheme work?
From 6th April 2008, for basic rate taxpayers, each time you earn £1, HMRC
takes the first 20p, leaving you 80p. If you give that 80p to TBC under Gift
Aid, HMRC are obliged to return their 20p to us. Prior to 6th April, 2008 the
basic tax rate was 22% and therefore the amount we could claim was higher than
we can claim now. However, the good news is that until 5th April 2011, HMRC will
pay a Transitional Relief to charities to bring Gift Aid back up to the
pre-April 2008 level. - You must have paid UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains
Tax in the tax year within which your donation has been made.
- You must
complete a TBC Gift Aid Declaration.
- Gifts must be identifiable as having
come from you.
- TBC must not reclaim more tax than you have paid.
4. How do I start making gifts under Gift Aid?
- Download and complete a Gift Aid Declaration form and return it to the
Treasurer. The declaration can apply retrospectively for up to the previous 6
years. We can reclaim the tax on any gifts that can be identified as yours since
that date.
- Make gifts personally identifiable. The simplest method is through a banker’s
standing order (i.e. payments are made from your bank account direct to the
Church’s). You can download this form below. Alternatively, the Treasurer can
supply you with special envelopes or you can make your gifts by cheque. If you
make one-off gifts in cash, please put the money in an envelope with your name
on it. All this information is kept strictly confidential, and known only to the
Treasurer and the Finance Assistant.
Please contact the Treasurer if you have any questions regarding the Gift Aid
scheme.
