Youth Residentials

Residential Information for 2009 will be out December 2008

Every year the young people at TBC (everyone in school years 7-13 or equivalent if you've left school) - from all the different groups - go away together for a weekend in the Spring and a week in the summer. On alternate summers we also have the opportunity for the older youth to take part in a mission trip overseas.

life_max.jpgWhy do we go?

Is your life sometimes a little, well, normal? Do you find yourself tempted to settle for the ordinary? Do you ever wonder whether you are really reaching the potential that God put inside you?

God wants to rescue us from an ordinary life, so... this year start living your life to the max! Both the weekend away and the summer Camp will have loads of fun and games as well as great opportunities to meet with God in times of worship and get some teaching too. This year we're going to focus on living the kind of life that God wants each of us to have - Life Max.

Youth Weekend Away

Each year the Youth Weekend away is in the spring travelling out on a Friday and returning Sunday afternoon (or Bank Holiday Monday). Sizewell is perfectly located right on the beach, about two hours' drive from Tonbridge. It's on the Suffolk coastline near Southwold, looking out to the sea with some amazing views. Information will be out in the New Year for 2009's weekend away.

Youth Camp

When and where?

This year's camp was at the end of the Summer Holidays - 23rd-30th August. Situated on the South Coast of Cornwall, a walk away from St Austell, is our beach side site of Porthpean.

life_max_camp.jpgAccommodation

Our site in Porthpean is a mixture of solid buildings and canvas tents. The large 6-person tents have got the luxury of solid wooden floors and mattresses. They are grouped into 4 'villages' and located near to a modern shower and toilet block. Along with the tents is a large dining room, meeting room, a couple of 'activity' rooms and loads of space to play games and sports... or simple lie back and enjoy the sunshine.

Activities

As well as the usual arts and crafts, girlie stuff, worship workshops, chilling out etc... there will be the chance to take part in some of the following (schedule still to be confirmed): Canoeing / kayaking, swimming, coasteering, mountain biking, adventure hikes, sailing, campfires, beach games, wide games, rock climbing, kite flying. (Some of these may incur an extra cost)

Youth Mission Trip

What happened in '08?youth_mission_trip.jpg

Touching down in Delhi, the TBC youth team encountered the bustling Indian city, to be greeted by their hosts - a committed Christian couple who regularly host gap-year teams from the UK. They spent a couple of days settling into life in Delhi - adjusting to the climate, culture, language, food and sounds!

They helped out in classes for the kids (and the occasional cricket match with the lads). They also worked with the young women’s empowerment programme which teaches basic vocational skills such as cooking and sewing.  On Sundays and in the evenings they were involved with church activities such as youth group, Bible studies and prayer meetings. Saturdays were‘days off’ and we’ll get the opportunity to explore the city together, or just relax and unwind after a busy week!

The trip was fully organised and supported by BMS World Mission who are experienced in running summer teams for teens. More about BMS online at www.bmsworldmission.org.

When?

Friday 1st to Friday 15th August 2008

Who?

A team of up to 8 young people plus two youth leaders from TBC. Applications for the team have now closed.
