Youth Residentials 2009: Get On It!

Every year the young people at TBC (everyone in school years 7-13 or equivalent if you've left school) - from all the different groups - go away together for a weekend in the Spring and a week in the summer. On alternate summers we also have the opportunity for the older youth to take part in a mission trip overseas.

Summer09.jpgWhy do we go?

Is your life sometimes a little, well, normal? Do you find yourself tempted to settle for the ordinary? Do you ever wonder whether you are really reaching the potential that God put inside you?

Our residentials are a fantastic opportunity to get away from 'ordinary life'! Both the weekend away and the summer Camp will have loads of fun and games as well as great opportunities to meet with God in times of worship and get some teaching too.

Youth Weekend Away

Each year the Youth Weekend away is in the spring travelling out on a Friday 1st May and, this year, returning on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, 4th May. Sizewell is perfectly located right on the beach, about two hours' drive from Tonbridge. It's on the Suffolk coastline near Southwold, looking out to the sea with some amazing views. Youth Mission Trip

What happened in '08?youth_mission_trip.jpg

Touching down in Delhi, the TBC youth team encountered the bustling Indian city, to be greeted by their hosts - a committed Christian couple who regularly host gap-year teams from the UK. They spent a couple of days settling into life in Delhi - adjusting to the climate, culture, language, food and sounds!

They helped out in classes for the kids (and the occasional cricket match with the lads). They also worked with the young women’s empowerment programme which teaches basic vocational skills such as cooking and sewing.  On Sundays and in the evenings they were involved with church activities such as youth group, Bible studies and prayer meetings. Saturdays were‘days off’ and we’ll get the opportunity to explore the city together, or just relax and unwind after a busy week!

The trip was fully organised and supported by BMS World Mission who are experienced in running summer teams for teens. More about BMS online at www.bmsworldmission.org.
