Total UK personal debt now exceeds £1.1 trillion – a figure that increases by £4 million  every four minutes. Credit card debt alone is over £56 billion and the average household debt, excluding mortgages is approx £7700. Bankruptcies are up over 30% in the last twelve months and money problems are now cited as the biggest single cause of divorce.
Against that background Tonbridge Debt Advice Centre, which is supported by the Churches of Tonbridge, was set up in 2004 to offer a free and confidential debt counselling service.
 Tonbridge Debt Advice Centre is a member of AdviceUK and works in partnership with the Consumer Credit Counselling Service. It has a team of trained debt advisors offering first time appointments on Monday evenings. In special circumstances day time appointments can be arranged and where necessary follow up appointments are made at the time of the initial meeting.
