Derwent Day Centre

The Derwent Day Centre is based at Tonbridge Baptist Church, providing an invaluable day-care service for older vulnerable people living in the local community. The doors opened in February 2002 and the Centre has built up to capacity of twenty clients each Wednesday and Thursday. The project is staffed by volunteers showing Christian care in action, and is very popular among the friends who attend.

A senior manager from that department describes the Day Centre as ‘making a real difference to the lives of a significant number of vulnerable people and is a shining example of working in the community at its most effective and best’.

The Centre provides:

  • A friendly environment for older people who need some support
  • Various activities such as games, quizzes, handicrafts, exercises and relaxation!
  • Services provided by health professionals
  • A midday meal and other refreshments

The centre runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays 10.00am – 3.30pm. For further details, contact your G.P. or email the Church Office

In 2004, the Day Centre was short-listed for a Faithworks award, see the link below for more information.
