Horizons

NEW - watch the Horizons Research Feedback video

"Vision has been described as a clear mental picture of what could be, fuelled by the conviction that it should be. What, with God's help, do we believe could be and should be real in this town and in Tonbridge Baptist Church?

No-one accomplishes a God-given vision alone. Together we want to dream of what God might do in our town and create a culture together where God can make that dream a reality."

What is Horizons?

The Horizons project has been launched by Wayne Alexander and the Leadership Team to help us arrive at a compelling vision that is crystal clear and inspires people to find faith, grow in faith and give away their faith. The project will shape the direction of the church over the next few years.

Why Horizons?

Tonbridge Baptist Church is a church with a great history and continues to do important work through committed people today. However, the different demands and many expectatons on TBC limit our effectiveness by over-stretching our time, focus and resources.

What do we want Horizons to achieve?

The project will address questions such as:

  • As a church what will our vision be?
  • How do we make the vision a reality?
  • How will we move from all the things we could do to the main things that we must do?
  • How do we present the vision in a consistent and attractive way to those outside the church?
  • What are the characteristics that will define the kind of church that we would like to be?

With your help we want the project to lead to lasting change that focuses our mission and gives us a united sense of direction by discovering God's will for our future.

The project will not answer every question that we all have about TBC life! It will however give our leaders a framework within which to make key decisions.

How are we doing it?

To address the above question we will need to explore:

  • The unique needs of our local community that we are best placed to meet
  • The resources, capabilities and experiences that we have as a church community
  • The particular focus that energises and motivates Wayne, and our leaders

So, we will carry out lots of research and listen to lots of people.

There is a project team to conduct the research under the leadership of Steve Ford. They are planning to research the needs of the local community and how to understand best the collective potential that we have as a church.

Look out over the next few weeks for opportunities for you to share your views through surveys and focus groups.

When will we know the outcome?

We anticipate the research and listening phase will take up until Christmas, and at the start of 2012 Wayne and the Leadership Team will be in a position to start to crystallise what we believe God is saying to us and to communicate the outcomes and implications to the church.

What can I do?

The most important thing that we can do is pray.

Pray for everyone in TBC's Leadership team and the Horizons Project Team. Pray that TBC will sense God's leading and hear His voice as we embark on this journey together.
