Leadership Team
The Leadership Team is comprised of Godly leaders with a passion for Jesus and whose hearts beat for the extension of the Kingdom of God.
Under the leadership of Wayne Alexander, the Leadership Team seeks God and determines the means by which the mission is accomplished. The Leadership Team is comprised of some paid leaders and some non-stipendiary leaders, all of whom have hearts that beat for the kingdom of God.
The purpose of the Leadership Team is to provide servant leadership and support to TBC in:
- Increasingly fulfilling the vision
- Remaining consistent with our values: how they inform everything we do and the way that we do them
- Being strategic with our approach
- Being cohesive with our structure
As well as this, the Leadership Team has these functions:
- To exercise spiritual oversight and pastoral care
- To listen to church members, communicate with them effectively, to plan Church Meetings
- To exercise church discipline when necessary
- To listen to God, testing prophecies.
- To deal with calls to full-time Christian service
- To agree membership applications
- To deal with issues that have church-wide implications e.g. Gift Day recipients, Disaster relief decisions, Church holidays, conferences etc.
- To establish an annual budget
- To review income/expenditure and approve exceptional expenditure
- To monitor any staff disciplinary issues
- To identify needs, resources and make decisions on new posts

Senior Minister - Rev Wayne Alexander
Provides overall leadership and vision to the church
Primary Teaching Minister
Wayne joined the staff team in January 2011. Wayne is a graduate of London School of Theology and was previously the Senior Pastor at Pembury Baptist Church. He is married to Jemma. They have two young daughters. Wayne is thrilled and humbled to be called to lead TBC and with Jemma is excited about the years ahead.
Director of Pastoral Care - Rev Astrid Vaswani
Provides overall leadership to Small Groups and pastoral care within the church
Astrid is responsible for Pastoral Care within the Church and has been part of the staff team since 2003. Prior to joining TBC she was a Human Resources Manager before going to Moorland's Bible College. She is married to Paul and they have a young daughter.
Director of Operations – Barry Lock
Provides overall systems, staff and facility management of the church
Barry is married to Margaret and they have three children. He is a qualified Social Worker. In the early 1980's Barry pioneered a social work project jointly funded by TBC and Kent County Council. He was a senior manager in Kent Social Services before working for six years with the Oasis Trust. In 1999 he joined the full-time staff at TBC, where he and Margaret have been members for over thirty years.
Director of Worship – Kevin Burgess
Provides overall leadership to worship across the church and to the planning, preparation and production of worship services

Provides overall leadership to the financial and HR management of the church

Elected Elder – Gareth Allen
Gareth is married to Sally and they have lived in Tonbridge for over 25 years. They have a growing family which currently consists of four boys, a daughter in law and two grandchildren.
After a brief career in finance and some years in the meat trade Gareth is now an owner of a small business, based near Canary Wharf, serving food ingredients to chefs in London.
