Who We Are » Our local community
Our local community
TBC’s work in the local community is based on three values:
- We are committed to becoming an integral part of the local community and in so doing seek to establish God’s Kingdom.
- Where appropriate we seek to ‘partner’ with other voluntary and statutory organisations working in the local community.
- We seek to empower people in the community to make positive contributions to their own lives and circumstances.
We believe that our work and ministry must be holistic, seeking to address the needs of body, mind and spirit. The work of the church must be relevant to the life of the community around us, we must identify with people’s daily struggles and work out in practical ways the gospel of Christ. We seek to recognise that there are different ways of ‘being’ and ‘doing’ church.
So what are we doing?
Come to TBC any day of the week and you will find a vibrant, active community of people involved in a wide range of activities. We estimate that during the course of each week between 2,500 and 3,000 people come through the doors.
There are numerous 'church' activities for people of all ages. We have also developed partnerships with other organisations in the voluntary sector and with statutory services in the town, out of which we host many other activities.
Some of our key activities are:
- Derwent Day Centre
- West Kent Debt Advice Centre
- Open House & Clothes-to-go
- Reflection and Prayer
- Toddler Time
More information about these and other activities can be found using the links above.
During 2005 we appointed three Community Support Workers: Tami and Gill, who are working closely with statutory and other voluntary organisations, providing support for adults and families in the local neighbourhood.
